2nd Commandments as a Love Letter...
The 2nd of the 10 Commandments is a Love Letter on how to have a healthy, committed relationship. God is so crazy in love with us that He yearns for the full love and attention of us, His bride.
10 Commandment Law #2:
You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything... You shall not bow down to them or worship them
This is really an extension of the 1st Love Letter.
In this 2nd Love Letter,
Imagine a groom getting ready to marry his bride.
He loves her so much,
But the bride has been a prostitute her whole life.
At one point God described Israel as a nation that prostituted herself out to other gods using the gifts He gave them. It's like insult to injury. We're just the same.
The bride's idea of a relationship is very warped and distorted.
For her, sleeping with another man or multiple men every night is no big deal. She doesn't see anything wrong with that.
"But you trusted in your beauty and used your fame to become a prostitute. You lavished your favors on anyone who passed by and your beauty became his. You took some of your garments to make gaudy high places, where you carried on your prostitution. You went to him, and he possessed your beauty. You also took the fine jewelry I gave you, the jewelry made of my gold and silver, and you made for yourself male idols and engaged in prostitution with them. And you took your embroidered clothes to put on them, and you offered my oil and incense before them. Also the food I provided for you—the flour, olive oil and honey I gave you to eat—you offered as fragrant incense before them. That is what happened, declares the Sovereign Lord."
The bride has no idea what a committed, trusting, healthy, loving relationship looks like.
The groom, however, comes from a healthy, loving home and wants His bride to experience true, committed love.
He wants to show her how valuable and precious she is,
And to share ALL He has to offer.
That is the HEART of God.
It's like God is saying,
"I LOVE you SOOOOOO much.
I want you to experience REAL LOVE.
I am LOVE.
I will ALWAYS love you and cherish you.
I will never leave you nor forsake you.
I will ALWAYS be with you no matter what.
So when any other man give you flowers or gifts, throw them away. They don't love you, they just want to use and abuse you.
I LOVE You.
If another man writes you a love letter and wants to wine and dine you, don't be with them.
Be with Me.
I am the source of LIFE,
My breath sustains you,
And without me you will die.
Don't die. LIVE!
I can't live without you.
I've given you everything, even my own Son, so you can LIVE. Choose LIFE. Choose Me.
I LOVE you."
So the next time you read the 10 Commandments, ask "Holy Spirit, what was the Father's heart when He wrote this? What was He thinking and feeling? Reveal it to me please. Speak, Your servant is listening..."
"Dear Heavenly Father,
I don't really know how to love You,
I only know how to love myself.
I'm so thankful that You still love me JUST as I am,
And You're willing to teach me Your ways.
I still look to the world and set many idols before You,
My hopes and dreams are NOT Yours,
My desires and ambitions are NOT Yours.
Help me put You above food, money, social media, vacations and success,
Help me put You above my vanity, selfishness and pride,
Help me surrender ALL my idols to You,
So I can ONLY look at You,
And bow my head and my heart to You.
Forgive me for my trespasses against You,
Forgive me for being unfaithful,
Forgive me for cheating on You,
Thank You for your unending patience and forgiveness.
For Yours is the kingdom, the power and the glory,
Amen, Amen and Amen!"
