The Dangers and Pitfalls of a High "D" Personality

Biggest Takeaways You Don’t Want to Miss:

What do I mean by dangers of a High “D”?  The DISC profile, is a tool used for discussion of people’s behavioral differences…. So what you say?

As a real estate entrepreneur it is quite likely (not all) will fall into the dominant behavior category.  The driver gone unchecked with an A+ personality. There are some definite dangers and pitfalls to be aware of when it comes to your business.  I want to share some of my experiences and pitfalls and give you some tools and strategies to implement into your business module.

Be aware of different languages

As the employer having a dominant personality does not give you a license to run people over.  What you see as “I’m just being me” can have a completely different tone to another. What is normal to you can be a prickly unfiltered manner that will create stress and conflict unbeknownst to you.  Be aware of how you’re being with others by having good dialogue and understand the different languages shared with others.

Always a problem solver

Another trait of a high “D” is being a problem solver.  Believe it or not there can be consequences in this role that is unintended.  When you take the role of main problem solver you whittle away the ability for others to solve problems.  Always having the answer trains them to come to you.

To change this habit try empowering them to be creative and come up with a solution. There's not enough bandwidth or hours in a day for you to be the “answer” for all issues that arise.  You might be quite capable but you don't want to do that, that's not a business. That's everything funneling on you and everything weighing on your shoulders and it starts getting heavier and unmanageable.

A high threshold for change

The third trait to recognize as a high D is a high threshold for change and a very low need for stability and steadiness.  That will pretty much drive the rest of your team crazy. Especially your administrative staff who are more high S or C. So for admins who like details and stability and consistency your language needs to tie back to their basic root need from their behavioral style.

As a high D you can build systems and structure around your business model in terms of the shared language.  Systems allow you to get consistent results that continue to deliver a more productive work environment. Take control in your business and increase your success level by looking at the big picture of people process and systems with your shared languages, and start reaping the rewards of making more while working less.
