Even the Gentiles Do That...
Is there's a significant difference between our life as a believer versus non-believer?
Are we supposed to be all that different?
"You are light for the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden."
"You are salt for the Land."
By that description, it sounds like we're supposed to STAND OUT.
The seems role of a Jesus Follower is NOT to blend in.
"And if you are friendly only to your friends, are you doing anything out of the ordinary? Even the Gentiles do that!"
Is how we live life REALLY different from non-believers?
Do we have a unique value proposition as Jesus followers?
We should.
We're the light and the salt.
If that's not a unique value proposition, I don't know what is.
Which means, "I'm a Christian because I'm good person and treat others the way I want to be treated." is not a unique value proposition for Christians.
"Even the Gentiles do that!"
Even in business, to say that "we offer good customer service" as a Christian is not being a unique light and salt,
That's something that any business should do,
And that many non-believers do also.
That's like a hospital saying "we heal people".
Duh.
So here's the question...
How can we stand apart like Jesus?
How do we NOT blend in with the world to BE a light and salt of the earth?
Here are 3 things Jesus did in His life that we can use in our business.
1) Prayer.
2) Talking about the Heavenly Father.
3) Teaching Kingdom principles.
After all, Jesus did say to
"go and make disciples of all nations"
We are suppose to ACTIVELY share and MAKE disciples... and that's not just once a week. We need to do it every day.
So let's see how can we incorporate the 3 things Jesus did in our business.
1) PRAYER
- Can you add prayer to our business?
- Can you pray in your team huddles?
- Can you pray with your clients?
- Can you pray with your teammates?
2) TALKING ABOUT THE HEAVENLY FATHER
- Can you share something God did in your life recently?
- Can you share a challenge or hurt authentically and talk about how God is helping you through it?
3) TEACHING KINGDOM PRINCIPLES
- Are you willing to create a space for learning about Jesus?
- Are you willing to start a Christian book club at work?
- Are you willing to do a Bible study with your co-workers?
Are you willing to be DIFFERENT for Jesus?
Do you WANT to be a light and salt for Jesus?
The world has trained us to be afraid to share Jesus.
"It's not appropriate" they say.
Yeah, for a NON-believer!
For a believer it's totally appropriate and necessary.
It's down to a choice.
A choice to STAND OUT the way Jesus told us to,
A choice to be DIFFERENT,
A choice to put ourselves on the line.
Does the thought of losing business stopping you from even trying to share Jesus?
Are you afraid it will offend people?
Are you afraid people will get mad?
Are you afraid it will hurt your business?
Have you considered the possibility that it's not as bad as you think?
At the end of the day, are you willing to take a hit for Jesus if it came down to it?
The world is getting crazier everyday.
The world needs Jesus MORE each day.
Are you willing to be a light?
Are you ready to get salty?
"Dear Heavenly Father,
May I be tired of blending in,
May I be dissatisfied of being lukewarm,
May I be bold for You,
May I be brave for You.
Grant me courage in the midst of fear,
Grant me faith in the midst of doubt,
Grant me commitment in the midst of uncertainty,
Help me be a light and salt of the earth for You
In Jesus name, Amen."
Cheers to taking a step outside of your comfort zone for Jesus!
