Recreational Bible Reading...?
What do you like to do for fun?
What's exciting to you?
What gives you a burst of energy when you're feeling down?
For me, I like playing sports, watching a good show or movie, listening to music and eating good food are things that can have me say "Looking forward to doing that...!"
What if we felt the same way about reading the Bible?
What if we looked forward to reading the Bible as a recreational activity?
What if it was refreshing and invigorating?
Instead of grabbing an espresso or an energy drink,
What if we wanted to grab the Bible and hang out with God?
What would it take to have THAT level of relationship with God?
I know only ONE way...
PRAY.
"you have not, because you ask not."
I CANNOT create a LOVE for scripture or God on my own.
I CANNOT change my heart to CRAVE God's word on my own.
Holy Spirit is the ONLY one that can change my heart and my very desires.
If you haven't ASKED God to make reading the Bible fun for you,
That may be the missing link.
Reading the Bible was boooooring for me until I literally ASKED God to make it fun for me.
He is the ONLY one that can plant a seed of JOY for scripture that will grow into beautiful shady tree that I can rest under.
So let's ASK away!
"Dear Heavenly Father,
I want to do RECREATIONAL Bible Reading with You.
Can you make Bible reading FUN for me?
Can you make it EXCITING for me?
Can you make it RELAXING for me?
Can you make it REFRESHING and INVIGORATING for me?
Can you make it so I CRAVE to read the Bible?
I know You want it too,
So I know You will grant this request.
I THANK You,
I TRUST You,
Your will be done.
In Jesus name, Amen."
Now that you've ASKED for the desire...
If you feel a tickle tickle in your brain of "Should I read the Bible for fun right now?",
That's God inviting you!
Say "YES!" and go for it.
When you crack open the Bible and INVITE Holy Spirit and ASK Him to make the Bible FUN for you.
"Holy Spirit, come! Make Your words come to life like only You can. Open my spiritual eyes to see and ears to hear. In Jesus name, Amen."
